Crazy Triple Play Highlights’ Sweep Over Jays by Yanks

The Yankees came into Toronto...Buffalo struggling. An up and down first two months of the season was in a downswing, winning only 2 of their last 9. The Bombers needed the bats to come alive. Check. They needed their starting pitching and their bullpen to come through. Check. And they need some signature wins. Check.

In the process of completing an impressive sweep, New York, with the help of some base running blunders by Toronto, turned the not so common pitcher to the first baseman to the shortstop to the catcher to the third baseman to the shortstop triple play...whew! You can see it here on mlb.com. Aaron Judge provided some magic of his own in the field, robbing Cavan Biggio of a 2 run homer in the 6th. Michael King started for the pinstripes. He wasn't terrific but he did what the Yanks needed him to do, he gave them innings without too much damage, giving up 3 runs in 4 and a third. The bullpen was great, giving up a run in 5 and two thirds. Chad Green picked up the win.

The story line of course was the offense. Gio Urshela and Giancarlo Stanton each hit home runs and drove in 2. And Chris Gittens was a big contributor driving in 3 with a pinch hit and a sac fly. Just what the doctor ordered for Aaron Boone and his ball club.

Buster Olney was on the Drive with Charlie and Dan today. He felt, after talking with Brian Cashman, that Aaron Boone’s job was safe until after the season, no matter what. Well, the owner still has the last name Steinbrenner, so we’ll see about that one. In any case, the Yankees are far from out of this race. Pennants can be lost in June but they can’t be won.
