A 26-year-old Gloucester County man has taken a plea deal after being charged with more than two dozen counts of sexual assault and manufacturing child sex abuse materials involving several victims.
William I. McCray, of Monroe, was arrested in December after an investigation was launched by one victim coming forward to police in October and reporting sexual abuse.

One victim's report led investigators to identify several more
Monroe Township Police searched McCray’s home and seized four cell phones, which the Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office High Tech Crimes Unit then helped to comb through.
Investigators found about 260 images and 40 video files containing child sexual abuse material.
A second victim was then confirmed and interviewed by police, followed by an additional five victims also identified in the photos, videos, and chat messages.
McCray initially faced a total of 27 charges.

Plea deal calls for an 18-year state prison sentence
On Friday in front of Superior Court Judge Renard L. Scott, he pleaded guilty to first-degree manufacturing and third-degree possession of child sexual abuse materials, second-degree sexual assault, and two counts of third-degree endangering the welfare of a child.
At sentencing in November under the plea deal, the state will recommend 15 years in state prison, plus an additional three years to be served consecutively.
McCray would also be banned from contacting any of his victims, and would be under lifetime parole supervision and required to register with the state as a sex offender under Megan’s Law.
"This plea agreement reflects the strength of the evidence and ensures the defendant will serve a lengthy prison sentence for these serious offenses,” Gloucester County Prosecutor Andrew B. Johns said in a written statement on Friday.
“While no outcome can undo the harm caused to the victims, today's plea delivers accountability and justice,” Johns continued, thanking investigators and prosecutors while commending the bravery of the victim who came forward.
