I have to get this off my chest: we need to finally fix how the amount of gas we have in our cars is displayed to make it accurate for the driver.

Allow me to explain.

I’m not going into this wanting to make it sound like I’m a huge car girly. I’m not an expert at all. All I really require of a car is to get me from Point A to Point B.

I don’t really know the ins and outs of vehicles, but I know what features can piss off the Average Joe (AKA me).

There aren’t many car features that I have hard opinions about except for this one…

Gas lights on cars

It genuinely pisses me off that my gas light comes on when it looks like there’s still about an eighth of a tank left to go.

I’ve had other cars where it comes on a little closer to “E,” and one where it wasn’t until I was at empty before it lit up. I trusted the one that came on closest to “E” most.

And for anyone reading this thinking “but Kylie, you fool, then you should just get a car that displays the number of miles you have before your tank is empty!”

No.

If they were trustworthy, sure, you would be making a fair point, stranger reading this. However, they’re not.

I’ve heard from many people, and even dated one, who pride themselves on driving their car well past seeing the zero pop up on the display.

It’s 2026. It shouldn’t be so hard to create technology that accurately and consistently shows me when I should start panicking that I’m running out of gas, because the way it changes depending on the vehicle is, well, driving me up a wall.

At least when I finally got to a gas station I was met with a reasonable price… oh wait, scratch that. It was another reason to be annoyed!

I don’t know if I’m the only one who feels this way, but I’d like to think someone reading this can relate.

No? I’m just screaming into the void? Well, at least I got it off my chest.
