The Phillies have been without two of their nine starting bats in Jean Segura and Bryce Harper.  While they have managed to hang around in the Wild Card chase, heading into the All-Star break in the lead for the final spot, some offensive reinforcements would be nice.  The Phillies may get one sooner than later.

The Phillies told reporters (including MLB.com's Todd Zolecki) that Segura is getting close to a return to action.  Segura could begin a rehab assignment next week, with an eye on returning to the Phillies after their upcoming road trip to Pittsburgh and Atlanta.  That would put Segura back at Citizens Bank Park on Thursday, August 4.

Segura had been one of the most consistent hitters on the Phillies up until his placement on the injured list June 1 for a fractured right index finger.  Segura was batting .275 with six home runs and 19 runs batted in in 167 at bats.  Segura also provided strong defense up the middle.

In the wake of Segura's injury, subs Johan Camargo and Nick Maton each suffered injuries in the days that followed.  Others who have helped fill second base since include Matt Vierling, Bryson Stott, and Yairo MuñozScott Kingery also spent a day on the Phillies active roster.

Having a consistent second baseman would be welcome to the Phillies lineup.
