Plenty of free agent names have been connected to the Phillies, especially free agent outfielders.  However, one free agent name to keep an eye on is their starting center fielder from 2021, Odubel Herrera.

According to Phillies insider Jim Salisbury from NBC Sports Philadelphia, the team has been in contact with Herrera about a reunion.

The team needs to fill two outfield spots, and Herrera could be an option, after hitting  .260 with 13 home runs and six stolen bases over 450 at-bats last season.

It would not be the most well received move after the team declined Herrera's $11.5 million club option back in November, making it seem the team was ready to move on from the former All-Star.

Phillies team President, Dave Dombrowski, said on Sunday that the team still wants to add a left and center fielder but one of those spots could have a platoon.

He added that the team will probably not sign a DH and will use multiple players in that role this season, including l, Bryce Harper and JT Realmuto.

Herrera returned to Philadelphia last season after serving an 85-game domestic violence suspension in 2019 after allegedly attacking his girlfriend inside the Golden Nugget Casino in Atlantic City. The charges against him were dropped.

Bringing back Herrera with the intent of having him be the teams everyday center fielder would be a major disappointment with some better options on the free agent market available.

The team has been connected to Kris Bryant, Jorge Soler and Nick Castellanos since the CBA has been ratified
