The Flyers picked up a 7-2 win over the Pittsburgh Penguins on Monday night at Wells Fargo Center.

In Saturday's series finale, the Devils finished off the series win, cruising to a 4-1 win over the Flyers at Wells Fargo Center.

The result was what the Flyers needed. How long it took was what they didn’t. In this critical week in their season, the one that will likely define whether they choose to buy or sell – or do a little of both – at the deadline, the Flyers needed to win games. They have one to start, certainly a step in the right direction. 

The Islanders showed they are a team that has a lot - the talent behind the bench, the depth up front, the defensive structure and the goaltender to get the job done. The Flyers did not show what they wanted to show. They did not show they have another level. They showed their flaws. 5 takeaways from Game 1.

The Flyers didn’t feel they played close to their best in the first round, and they know they can’t get by on that in the next one.

The Eagles lost to the Detroit Lions at home as they were not focused and disciplined all game long. Carson Wentz delivered a ball to JJ Arcega-Whiteside at the goal line with the game on the line and he dropped it. This was a common theme as the receivers dropped a total of seven balls, but that's not all! Miles Sanders fumbled the ball twice (one was recovered by the Eagles) and Nelson Agholor fumbled as well. There were three offensive pass interference calls against the birds and they allowed a special teams touchdown on their first kickoff of the game after taking a 3-0 lead on the first offensive possession. This was a pathetic loss and with a short week, things will get interesting.
