Yankees General Manager Brian Cashman needs to start making some phone calls, because the Yankees need some help if they are going to make the playoffs. Gerrit Cole will bounce back from Sunday’s awful performance in Boston, but Corey Kluber and Luis Severino are not returning anytime soon and Deivi Garcia is cemented in the minors. Jameson Taillon has been better but still too inconsistent. How much confidence do the Yankees have in Jordan Montgomery? Cashman has some work to do.

In terms of what Cashman could and should do, we brought on Erik Boland who covers the New York Yankees for Newsday Sports. The Yankees could use a centerfielder for sure and honestly, the moves to be made between now and the end of the season may be done a lot in house. Estevan Florial is in Triple A looking for an opportunity so he definitely is an option to be a spark plug at some point this summer. Boland says that Cashman is making calls though and in fact has reached out to all 29 teams. They need to also try and bring in a left handed bat because even bad right handed pitchers are having success against the Yankees right handed heavy lineups.

Lastly the Yankees need to go out and improve the rotation. They have gotten some solid contributions but it just simply needs to be better. If they can acquire one more arm, that would be essential but Boland notes that it takes two to tango and with other teams also looking for upgrades. Can they outbid another contender? The jury is out on that.
