“Baseball, apple pie and Chevrolet” said the old TV commercial. Baseball is as American as it gets. It was, at one time, “America’s pastime.” I think those days have passed but it is hard to celebrate a holiday around a Playstation 5 or XBox Series X, so we’ll stick with baseball. So, here are 5 cool baseball focused road trips for this upcoming 4th of July weekend. As of now, tickets are available to all of them! Play ball!

#5 The National Baseball Hall of Fame - Cooperstown, NY - This national treasure is less than 75 miles from Albany and is a day filled with baseball memorabilia, history and terrific food and that’s even before you get into the museum! Cooperstown is a must stop for any baseball fan and the museum is loaded with amazing historic displays and interactive activities.

#4 The Tri City ValleyCats - Troy, NY - The Cats are home for a 3 game series against Quebec. Friday and Saturday are 7pm games and Sunday is a 6pm start on the 4th followed by one of the ValleyCats traditionally terrific fireworks shows. The 4th of July and ValleyCats are an area tradition for many.

#3 Syracuse Mets - Syracuse, NY - The New York Mets AAA team is a little more than 2 hours away from Albany. This weekend they play the Rochester Red Wings, who are the Washington Nationals AAA team. Saturday night is a 7pm game and there is a post game fireworks show. If you are a Mets fan or a Nationals fan, you’re bound to know some of the players. The tickets are reasonable and there isn’t a bad seat in the stadium.

#2 Worcester Red Sox - The Red Sox AAA team is about the same drive as Syracuse clocking in about 2 hours but they feature an awesome weekend schedule of fireworks on Friday, Saturday and Sunday and they play the Yankees AAA affiliate, the Scranton Wilkes-Barre Railriders. Red Sox vs. Yankees at a fraction of the price plus really cool fireworks.

#1 New York Mets vs. New York Yankees at Yankee Stadium with a 7pm game on Friday, a 1pm on Saturday and a 7pm game on the 4th. Yankee Stadium is about 2 hours and 20 minutes away. These games will be worth every second. As of today, tickets are still available.

Nothing is better than a baseball holiday road trip. Have fun and safe travels!
