It's been a very contentious few weeks in the Venezuelan Winter Baseball League.

Roughly three weeks ago, we wrote about a full brawl that broke out during a  between the Leones del Caracas and the Tiburones de La Guaira. The game featured a handful of players who had connections with the New York Mets and Yankees, making an already insane scene that much more intriguing to people in the Empire State.

Less than three weeks later, we have another brawl that broke out in that league, and a former New York Met was at the center of it all.

Ex-Met Asdrubal Cabrera Clotheslines Opposing Player, Starts Brawl Mid-Game

A Venezuelan Winter League game was being played between the Tiburones de La Guaira and the Caribes de Anzoategui, and utility player Carlos Castro was up to bat. The right-handed hitting Castro hit a ball deep to right field and over the fence for a home run when facing left-handed pitcher, Jose Torres.

As Castro left the batter's box, he admired his work for a bit, and celebrated the dinger by bat-flipping and jogging slowly to first base. Torres took issue with this behavior, screaming at Castro as he jogged down the first-base line.

It was Cabrera, however, who escalated things to the next level:

As the video shows, Cabrera was also yelling at Castro, before running up to him, and clotheslining him directly in the face. Castro crumples to the ground after getting clocked, and a massive brawl breaks out on top of him.

The game was played on Saturday, November 19th, at Estadio Alfonso Chico Carrasquel, the home of Cabrera's Caribes de Anzoategui.

This is an absolutely ridiculous move by Cabrera, who as The New York Posted noted, is no stranger to bat-flips and other celebratory antics.

Baseball needs more entertainment, and more personality, to be injected into the game. Hockey players celebrate when scoring goals, basketball players celebrate after major dunks, and football players (used to be able to) celebrate touchdowns.

Why can't baseball players celebrate their home runs? Or their strikeouts? It's an unwritten rule of the game of baseball, one that I hope gets erased sooner, rather than later.

Ex-Capital Region Manager Takes Down New York Mets Polar Bear

In the final game of the three game series, the New York Mets and St. Louis Cardinals were involved in a bench clearing brawl. A former Tri City ValleyCats manager was right in the thick of things.

These Ten Players Played for Both New York Baseball Teams

It's rare to see an athlete play for two teams in the same city, but when it comes to the New York Yankees and Mets, these ten players suited up for them both.
