Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts will have surgery on his injured ankle that forced him to miss the teams Week 13 game against the New York Jets.

Hurts injured the ankle during the teams game against the New York Giants, where he was limping off the field, but he did not leave that game and did not play the following week.

Today he will have surgery to repair that ankle and is expected to be ready for OTA's this spring, per Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network.

The injury had an obvious impact on Hurts play, especially as a rusher, averaging 58 yards rushing before the injury and just 32 after (including the teams playoff loss to the Tampa Bay).

Hurts ended his first full season as a starter throwing for 3,144 yards, 16 touchdowns and nine interceptions in 15 games this season. He has been given a vote of confidence by both head coach Nick Sirianni and general manager Howie Roseman that he will in fact be the teams starting quarterback in 2022.

Even with that assurance, the Eagles own three first-round picks in the 2022 draft and could use them to make a play for a veteran quarterback in a trade or select one with one of their picks.

If Hurts returns as the starter, he will do so in the same offense, with the same coach for the first time in four years.  He went from Alabama to Oklahoma to playing for Doug Pederson to Nick Sirianni. That alone could help his development as a passer and as a quarterback in general.
