The Eagles have signed veteran cornerback James Bradberry, formally of the New York Giants to a one-year, $10 million contract, on Thursday, a move that was first reported by Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network.

Bradberry, 28, likely becomes the teams starting cornerback opposite Darius Slay and gives the team a veteran presence they lost when Steven Nelson left in free agency. The addition of the 2020 Pro Bowler adds a depth to the position, which also includes nickel corner, Avonte Maddox.

The 6-feet-1, 212-pound Bradberry was drafted in the second round by the Carolina Panthers in 2016, has started 91 of 92 career games between his time with the Panthers and Giants.

He had his best season in 2020 with the Giants, starting 15 games and recording three interceptions, 18 passes defended, making 55 tackles.

Last season in New York, he started 16 games, and had four interceptions, 17 passes defended and 47 tackles. The Giants ultimately tried to trade Bradberry, but could not find a fit with his contract so the team released him on May 9 to cut costs and sign their draft class, making him a free agent.

Adding Bradberry gives the Eagles a solid No. 2 outside corner, something the franchise did not have last season. While Nelson was okay in the role as No. 2, the team had to do a lot of coverage to hide him and help him out on the outside.

With Slay, Bradberry and Maddox the team has a solid group of corners now entering training camp.
