Former Phillies Pitcher Vince Velasquez Has Found a New Home
Former Phillies pitcher Vince Velasquez has found a new home.
The free agent pitcher is heading to the south side of Chicago to pitch for the White Sox.
Velasquez had an electric arm, but his erratic control was a major issue during his Phillies tenure, leading them to finally release him in Sept. with a a 5.95 ERA and 1.48 WHIP in 81 2/3 innings pitched.
Overall, the 29-year old right-hander went 3-9 record in 2021 with a 6.30 ERA and 1.48 WHIP with the Phillies and Padres in 2021.
He was brought to Philadelphia as part of the Ken Giles trade with the Houston Astros back in 2016. At the time, he was considered a key piece to the deal, because of his electric fastball, but consistently struggled with his command.
He has 269 walks in 651 innings pitched with a 1.39 WHIP for his career.
