Philadelphia Eagles Sign T.J. Edwards to 1-Year Extension

The Eagles have been locking up some of their own over the past week and have done so again on Monday, extending the deal of linebacker T.J. Edwards. the team gave him a 1-year extension worth $3.2 million with #2.1 in fully guaranteed money, according to the NFL Network’s Ian Rapaport,

Edwards went undrafted out of the University of Wisconsin in 2019, but has entered the lineup and has helped stabilize what was a poor linebacking unit. Coming our of college, he was a two-time All-Big Ten selection, and a first-team All-American.

He left Wisconsin with some impressive numbers, making 37.5 tackles for loss, eight sacks, 10 interceptions, and 25 pass breakups.

"Those guys from Wisconsin, that played as a Badger, my experience with those guys is they're tough and they're nasty and they can play physical ball."

In 11 games this season, Edwards has amassed 73 total tackles and has a sack an an interception, which he made on Sunday in the win against New Orleans.

"He's really playing well," Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni said on Sunday. "T.J. brings a physicality that really is contagious. And he continues to come after the ball."

"T.J. just has that physicality and he's just really playing good football right now."

"I'm sure glad he's playing the role he's playing right now."

The  6-foot-1, 240-pound Edwards got some time in the Eagles defense last season as well, making 67 tackles with two sacks and two interceptions. He has teamed with Davion Taylor to give the Eagles defense a pair of young linebackers, replacing Alex Singleton and Erix Wilson, who started the year as the teams starting linebackers.

The Eagles have now locked up Dallas Goedert, Avonte Maddox and Edwards in the last week.
