One day, you could be where the Flyers were to start the season, seven wins in the first 12 games. The next though, you can be where the Flyers are right now, mired in a five-game losing streak that is halfway to a mark that has become an identifier of where the franchise currently is.

Nearly a decade before he was drafted, current New York Islanders' forward Oliver Wahlstrom went viral, for a shootout goal that would change his life forever.

However, late in the first period, Islander center Matt Barzal scored the first of 3 New York power play goals on the evening. Kyle Palmeri and Jordan Eberle had the other two PPG’s but the goal scoring has not been the story of this series. The tale of this series has been the physical play. It hasn’t been a dirty series but it is an old time checking dust up to say the least.

The result was what the Flyers needed. How long it took was what they didn’t. In this critical week in their season, the one that will likely define whether they choose to buy or sell – or do a little of both – at the deadline, the Flyers needed to win games. They have one to start, certainly a step in the right direction. 

According to a report from Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman, the Flyers will face the Bruins in an outdoor game at Lake Tahoe in February.
