It was reported earlier today that Jim Fassel, former coach of the New York Giants that took the team to a Super Bowl in 2000, passed away at the age of 71. Fassel coached with the Giants in from 1997 through 2003, his only head coaching job in the NFL. He was the offensive coordinator for the Broncos, Cardinals and Ravens, and last coached in 2012, for the Las Vegas Locomotives of the UFL.

Former New York Giants players have taken to Twitter throughout the day to express their condolences, and share their fondest memories, and some of them are extremely powerful. Here are a few I found.

Needless to say, Coach Fassel's legacy will continue through the many players who he impacted over his career. Having players from different positions, different backgrounds and different levels of notoriety all express their sympathies, and share their fond memories, is a very powerful display of the impact he had.

I ventured outside of the blue checkmarks for a brief period, to see the messages from fans of the team. Another thing became clear to me: the teams that Fassel helmed brought in a new era of Giants fans, an era that is still cheering for the 2021 iteration of the team. Now that is a legacy that will last a lifetime.

Condolences to Coach Fassel's family and friends.
