Sixers Survive OT Thriller vs. Spurs off Simmons Game Winner

They're not always pretty, but a win is a win. The Sixers traveled to San Antonio on Sunday night looking to extend their winning streak to four-game. The Spurs were without multiple starters in this one, leading one to believe the Sixers were on their way to their fourth straight blowout victory.

That would not be the case, as the shorthanded Spurs almost managed to steal one from one of the Eastern Conference's top teams. They hung around and kept the game tight up until the closing moments.

With the score tied up in the closing seconds of regulation, Joel Embiid had a chance to seal the game for the Sixers. He attempted a fadeaway jumper as time expired, but it would not fall. Sending the matchup into overtime.

Things remained close throughout the overtime period as the Spurs continued to fight. Once again, Embiid found himself with the ball in his hands with a chance to win the game.

He got off a shot in the lane that would eventually rim out. With time still on the clock, Ben Simmons out-jumped multiple Spurs' players and tipped the ball in as time winded down.

When all was said and done, the Sixers walked away with a win by a final score of 113-111. They now find themselves on a four-game winning streak and have regained sole possession of first place in the Eastern Conference.

While Embiid missed the two potential game-winners, he put on a dominant performance against the Spurs. Finishing with a team-high 34 points to go along with 12 rebounds.

The other Sixer who had a standout game on Sunday was Seth Curry. He ended the night with 22 points on just ten shot attempts, including a perfect 6-6 from beyond the arc.

Simmons was rather quiet in regulation but was huge for the Sixers when they needed it during overtime. Along with the game-winning tip-in, he also drew two charging fouls that proved to be crucial in securing the victory.

On the night as a whole, Simmons racked up five points, six rebounds, five assists, and two steals.

Tobias Harris had a night to forget in this OT thriller. He shot just 3-10 from the floor and finish with six points.

This game should not have been as close as it was, but the Sixers were able to sneak out with the win. They can use this game as a reminder not to overlook any teams as they look to finish the regular season strong.

Looking ahead, the Sixers will be right back in action on Monday. They head to Chicago for a matchup against Zach LaVine and the Bulls.
